Studio community in Düsseldorf shows art in small format
Small formats in art are works that are characterised by their compact size. They have a long tradition and can be found in almost all genres of art – from painting and graphic art to sculpture, photography and contemporary installations. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, small formats were particularly common in book illumination, for example as illuminated manuscripts, or they were used in miniature portraits. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, miniature painting enjoyed great popularity, especially for personal portraits, which were often kept in medallions or pieces of jewellery. With the art movements of the 20th century, the small format finally became more experimental and versatile, opening up new possibilities for design and expression.
A total of nineteen contemporary artists will be showing artistic works in a small format on Schwerinstraße in Düsseldorf-Pempelfort. The organiser of this Advent exhibition is the studio community on Schwerinstraße in Düsseldorf-Pempelfort.
